PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
